چکیده

The paper examines the effect of using dissipative edge terminations between power and ground planes on the radiation from a printed circuit board. Basically, this consists of resistive loading of the edges of the power/ground plane structure. These edges constitute the main radiating sources for the dominant resonant mode. This has been found to be effective in reducing the impedance at resonant frequencies. This paper examines the effect on the radiation. The analysis is based on a full wave moment method solution combined with a multi-port network formulation. Numerical results are presented and discussed.

Reducing Simultaneous Switching Noise and EMI on Ground/Power Planes by Dissipative Edge Termination

Power and ground planes should exhibit low impedance over a wide range of frequencies. Parallel ground and power planes in multilayer printed-circuit boards exhibit multiple resonances which increase the impedance and also the radiation from the edge of the board. Resistive termination along the board edges reduces the resonance peaks. Simple and straightforward design expressions, simulated se...

Importance and Limitations of Modeling Parasitic Capacitance between Package and PCB for Power Bus Noise and Radiation

Power and ground planes on multilayer PCBs can effectively radiate electromagnetic fields excited by the IC simultaneous switching noise. The high frequency electromagnetic radiation is often calculated from the electric field along the edge of the PCB, which can be estimated with a cavity model using magnetic walls. The excitation of the cavity modes is related to the via current passing throu...

Analytical calculation of the impedance of lossy power/ground planes

Power and ground planes are required to have low impedance over a wide range of frequencies. Parallel ground and power planes in multilayer printed-circuit boards exhibit multiple resonances, which increase the impedance. Dissipative loading of the radial transmission line structure of the planes reduces the resonance peaks. The dissipative loads can be realized by resistors distributed on the ...

Impact of Finite Ground Plane Edge Diffra- Ctions on Radiation Patterns of Aperture Antennas

In this study, the impact of finite ground plane edge diffractions on the amplitude patterns of aperture antennas is examined. The Uniform Theory of Diffraction (UTD) and the Geometrical Optics (GO) methods are utilized to calculate the amplitude patterns of a conical horn, and rectangular and circular waveguide apertures mounted on square and circular finite ground planes. The electric field d...

Slip Effects on Ohmic Dissipative Non-Newtonian Fluid Flow in the Presence of Aligned Magnetic Field

The present paper deals with the effects of Ohmic dissipative Casson fluid flow over a stretching sheet in the presence of aligned magnetic field. The present phenomenon also includes the interaction of thermal radiation and velocity slip. The governing boundary layer equations are transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations using the similarity transformations. The dimensionless ...
